ROSINA ZOTTI (IMOLA, 1883 – PRALBOINO, 1973)

She studied at the Liceo Musicale of Bologna and made her debut in 1910 at the Teatro Comunale in Bologna, performing in Götterdämmerung. In 1913, she appeared at the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples, sharing the role of Fleana with Burzio in the Italian premiere of Leoncavallo’s I Zingari, which had premiered at the London Hippodrome a year earlier.

In addition to performing in various Italian theaters, Zotti toured extensively with opera companies in Central and South America. She also visited the western United States multiple times during the 1910s and up to 1922 with the La Scala Grand Opera Company (not affiliated with Milan’s Teatro alla Scala). One of her signature roles was Cio-Cio-San in Madama Butterfly. Other notable roles in her repertoire included Mimì in La Bohème, Nedda in Pagliacci, and Micaëla in Carmen.

In the 1930s, she performed with a touring marionette theater in New York, as well as in other locations, showcasing her adaptability and continued dedication to the performing arts.
