ALFONS FÜGEL (BONLANDEN, GERMANY, AUGUST 10, 1912 – ESSLINGEN, GERMANY, OCTOBER 8, 1960)

Initially, he worked as a tiler. After his beautiful voice was discovered, he auditioned for Clemens Krauss, the director of the Munich State Opera, and subsequently began a brief period of study. He made his debut in 1937 at the Municipal Theater of Ulm, and in 1938, he joined the Opera House of Graz. In 1940, he was engaged by the State Opera in Munich, where he achieved great success.

During the war years, he performed as a guest in Holland, notably as Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni. He remained with the Munich Opera until 1945. After the Second World War, he continued to make guest appearances, including at the Stuttgart State Opera and the Municipal Theater of Ulm. Later, he focused primarily on his career as a concert singer. He passed away suddenly during a concert in Esslingen.
