JEAN BUYSSON (AMSTERDAM, 21 APRIL, 1875 – PARIS, 1945)
His real name was Jonathan (Anton) Buys. He likely made his debut in 1900 at the opera house in Liège. In 1906, after a successful guest performance, he was engaged by the Court Opera of Munich, where he remained until 1909. In Munich, he participated in several premieres, including:
1908: Pelléas in the Munich premiere of Pelléas et Mélisande.
1908: Don César in Donna Diana by E. N. Reznicek.
1909: Cavaradossi in Tosca.
After a guest performance as Don José in Carmen, he was engaged by the Vienna Court Opera for the 1909-10 season. However, he returned to Munich in 1910.
In 1913, he left Germany and gave guest performances, including one at Covent Garden, London. His career appears to have ended soon afterward, as no further performances are documented. He also performed at the Court Operas of Berlin (1910) and Dresden (1910), as well as other theaters.
He was married to the soprano Mme Buysson-Torres.
