AMELIA ARMOLLI (? 1910 – ?)
In 1932, she transitioned to operetta singing but soon began performing lighter lyrical roles in various Italian opera houses. In 1937, she made her debut at La Scala in Milan as Poussette in Massenet’s Manon. At La Scala, she also replaced Mafalda Favero in the role of Suzel in Mascagni’s L’Amico Fritz. During the following season, she performed as Musetta in La Bohème and Olga in Giordano’s Fedora.
In 1937, she joined the Italian Opera in Holland, where she sang in the premiere of Lattuada’s Preziose Ridicole and impressed audiences with her portrayals of Musetta in La Bohème and Micaela in Carmen. The following year, in 1938, she made a guest appearance at the Verona Arena Festival as Musetta.
In 1939, she traveled to North America, performing with the Salmaggi Opera Company and several other touring companies, where she was particularly acclaimed for her portrayal of Violetta in La Traviata. After retiring from the stage, she opened a vocal studio in Milan.
Early in her career, she recorded operetta excerpts for Edison Bell, often performing duets with tenor Guido Agnoletti. Later, she recorded a single opera selection for Columbia Records. Her operetta recordings remain a testament to her artistry and versatility.
