MIKHAIL TIMOFEEVICH DOULOFF (1877 – 1948)


 


 

He was a pianist-ensemble player and accompanist. According to contemporaries, he possessed a unique memory, ease of reading from a list, and a fine sense of ensemble partnership. He performed in St. Petersburg and on tour with Chaliapin, Figner, Ershov, played in an ensemble with many famous string soloists (Nathan Milstein, Naum Blinder, Henri Marteau, Emanuel Feuermann). Before the revolution, he performed in symphony concerts of Sergei Koussevitzky, symphony gatherings of the Imperial Russian Musical Society. In the 20s and 30s, he was a regular participant in philharmonic concerts. On March 29, 1924, Douloff’s 4000th jubilee concert was celebrated in the Philharmonic Hall. And on May 9, 1926, a concert was held here on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of his musical activity. The last performance of Mikhail Douloff on the stage of the Philharmonic took place during the war – on January 1, 1944, Douloff accompanied the singers at the “Master of Arts – Komsomol” concert.
