GEORG ANTHES (BAD HOMBURG, GERMANY, MARCH 12, 1863 – BUDAPEST, HUNGARY, FEBRUARY 23, 1923)
He studied singing under Julius Stockhausen in Frankfurt am Main and made his debut in 1888 at the Stadttheater in Freiburg im Breisgau as Max in Freischütz. He also appeared in London (Covent Garden), Wiesbaden, Karlsruhe, Frankfurt am Main, Leipzig, and the Netherlands. His repertoire included Lyonel in Martha, Siegfried in Der Ring des Nibelungen, Assad in Die Königin von Saba, Manrico in Il Trovatore, Radamès in Aida, Otello, Masaniello in La Muette de Portici, Faust, Raoul in Les Huguenots, Don José in Carmen, Jason in Medea, and Eisenstein in Die Fledermaus.
In 1913, he became a professor at the conservatory in Budapest. From 1920, he served as the first director of the Budapest Opera.
