GIUSEPPE TISCI RUBINI (NAPLES, 1867 – NAPLES, 1936)
His stage debut likely took place in 1892 in Naples, and for more than 40 years, he sang at Italy’s most renowned opera houses, later focusing on comprimario roles. In 1898, he made a guest appearance at the Opera House of Monte Carlo as Lodovico in Verdi’s Otello. On November 22, 1898, he performed at the Teatro Costanzi in Rome in the premiere of Mascagni’s opera Iris as Cieco, a role he reprised in 1899 at La Scala, Milan.
In 1917, he was heard at the Teatro Dal Verme in Milan. He achieved particular success at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo during the 1901–1905 seasons and was a beloved figure at the Teatro San Carlo in his hometown of Naples, where he remained a prominent performer until 1934. At the San Carlo, he appeared in the premieres of Felice Lattuada’s opera Don Giovanni (1929) and Franco Alfano’s L’ultimo lord (1930).
