Georg Anthes (Tenor) (Bad Homburg, Germania March 12, 1863 - Budapest, Hungary February 23, 1923)

He studied singing under Julius Stockhausen in Frankfurt a. M. and made his debut in 1888 at the Stadttheater in  Freiburg i. Br. as Max in ‘’Freischütz’’. He appeared also in London (Covent Garden), Wiesbaden, Karlsruhe, Frankfurt a. M., Leipzig and Holland. His repertoire included Lyonel in ‘’Martha’’, Siegfried in ‘’Nibelungenring’’, Assad in ‘’Königin von Saba’’, Manrico in ‘’Il Trovatore’’, Radames in ‘’Aida’’, Otello, Masaniello in ‘’La Muette de Portici’’, Faust, , Raoul in ‘’Les Huguenots’’, José in ‘’Carmen’’, Jason in ‘’Medea’’ and Eisenstein in ‘’Fledermaus’’. In 1913 he became a professor of the conservatoire in Budapest. Since 1920 he worked as the first director of the Budapest Opera.
