Laure Tessandra (Contralto)




She made her debut in 1926 at the Grand Opéra in Paris as Dalila in ‘’Samson et Dalila’’ by C. Saint-Saëns. Till 1933 she remained a member of this opera house and appeared there in parts like Maddalena in ‘’Rigoletto’’, Edvige in G. Rossini’s ‘’Wihelm Tell’’, Magdalene in "Meistersingern", Floßhilde in "Rheingold", Herodias in Richard Strauss’s ‘’Salome’’ and Annina in "Rosenkavalier". In 1930 she appeared at the Opera of Antwerp, in 1933 at the Opéra de Monte-Carlo.

  1. She has a beautiful voice. This selection is interesting because it is so different from those of singers of heftier mezzo voices associated with the Italian style of Azucena interpreters. Perhaps the French approach to this demanding role is different in principle.
