SERAFINA SCALFARO (PARMA, 1876 - ?)


 

 

 

She began her operatic career in 1907, performing in various European theaters. She made early appearances in Varna at Teatro Boris, singing as Eudossia in L'Ebrea and as Violetta in La Traviata. That same year, she performed as Mimì in La Bohème in Corfu at Teatro Della Fenice and in Athens at Teatro Nuovo Falero.

Her career continued to flourish in 1908 with a season at Teatro Solodownikoff in Kiev and a performance as Ines in L'Africana at Teatro D’Inverno in Poltava. Later that year, she appeared as Gilda in Rigoletto in Treviso, followed by a series of roles in Gand (Ghent) at Petit Théâtre, including Oscar in Un Ballo in Maschera, Mimì in La Bohème, and Micaela in Carmen.

In 1911, she made her American debut at the Metropolitan Theater in Philadelphia, singing Myrtale in Thaïs and performing in Quo Vadis by J.C. Nogues.

By 1914, she returned to Italy, where she sang Margherita in Faust at Teatro Gaffurio in Lodi.
