JAN BERLÍK (TÁBOR, 24 MAY, 1892 – PRAGUE, 27 DECEMBER, 1972)

 

 

 


He studied singing under E. Fuchs, K. Wallerstein, and C. Emmerich. From 1925, he performed in Bratislava, in 1926 at the National Theatre in Prague, and in 1927, he moved to Hamburg. During the 1931–1940 seasons, he sang again at the National Theatre. Berlík had a lovely, soft voice with a beautiful cantilena and an impressive stage presence. His most notable roles included Jeník (Prodaná nevěsta), Alfredo (La Traviata), Don Carlo, Rodolfo (La Bohème), Cavaradossi (Tosca), and Don José (Carmen). In the 1950s, he taught singing at the Prague Conservatory.
