ENDRE RÖSLER (BUDAPEST, HUNGARY, NOVEMBER 27, 1904 -, BUDAPEST, HUNGARY, DECEMBER 13, 1963)

Born in 1904, Rösler trained first with Géza László in Budapest, followed by studies in Italy under Giuseppe De Luca and Edoardo Garbin. His operatic debut was as Alfredo in La Traviata at the National Opera in Budapest in 1927.

A significant milestone in Rösler’s career was his role in the world premiere of Zoltán Kodály’s Die Spinnstube on April 24, 1932, at the Budapest Opera. He was a versatile performer, excelling in roles spanning Handel’s Xerxes, Mozart’s operas (Don Giovanni, Così fan tutte), and Wagner’s Rheingold. His repertoire also included roles from Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin to Mussorgsky’s Boris Godunov.

Rösler appeared on prominent stages in Vienna, Milan, Florence, Leipzig, and Munich. Later, in 1953, he began teaching at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, where he mentored notable students, including soprano Eva Marton. His contributions to opera and Hungarian music are widely recognized.
