Carmen
First she studied singing in Weimar under Virgina Naumann-Gungl, then with
Fedor von Milde, but she rehearsed some opera parts with Richard Strauss. She made
her debut in 1891 at the Hoftheater in Weimar
as 1-st lady in the ‘’Magic Flute’’. In 1900 she was engaged by Gustav Mahler to appear at the Vienna Hofoper. Up to 1926 she was highly appreciated in Vienna , where for the
last time she sang the part of Elektra. She been active at the Vienna Opera as
well as at the Salzburg Festival as an opera director ( ‘’Don Giovanni’’. 1926,
Iphigenie in Aulis. 1930). First she was married to the conductor Gustav Gutheil
(1868-1914), then with the photographer Franz Setzer.
