Eyvind Laholm (Tenor) (Eau Claire, Wisconsin, USA 1894 - New York, USA 1958)

He was of Swedish origin and his real name was Jon Edwin Johnson. After he had served in the First World War with the American navy, he studied singing under William S.Brady in New York. First he appeared in the USA in operetta theaters, then, however, his career began in Europe as an opera singer. He made his debut in 1924 at the Stadttheater in Essen as Canio in ‘’Pagliacci’’. He remained here till 1928. In the 1928-1930 seasons he was engaged by the Staatstheater in Wiesbaden. In the 1930-1931 season he appeared at the Staatsoper in Stuttgart. In the 1932-1938 seasons he was a member of the Opernhaus in Frankfurt a. M. He made guest appearance in 1929 at the Berlin  Kroll-Oper as Erik in "Fliegenden Holländer". In 1934 he was staying with the ensemble of the Frankfurt Opera in Amsterdam, where he sang the part of Rienzi. In 1935 he appeared at the Staatsoper in Vienna. In 1937 he performed in the festival at the Waldoper of Zoppot. In 1938 he made guest appearance at the Arena di Verona  as Tannhäuser. In 1939 he gave a successful recital in New York and was a member of the New York Metropolitan Opera till 1941.

  1. He was my first cousin twice removed- the most famous person in our family tree. Our ancestors came from Laholm, Halland,Sweden, thus his stage name.
