He received his education at the Bucharest
Conservatory and was there a pupil of Demeter Popovici. In 1911 he made his debut
at the Opera in Brasov
(Kronstadt) as Alfio in ‘’Cavalleria Rusticana’’ and remained active at this
house till 1913. Since 1914 he was a member of the National Opera of Bucharest
and counted as one of the most significant Roumanian singers of his time. He
was involved decisively in the development of the Roumanian opera life. His
repertoire included Don Giovanni, Osmin in ‘’Entführung aus
dem Serail’’, Mephisto ‘’Faust’’, Cardinal in ‘’La
Juive’’, Boris Godunov, Ramphis in ‘’Aida’’, Scarpia in ‘’Tosca’’, Mefistofele
in A. Boito’s opera of the same name. At the same time he was a respected
concert and oratorio singer, a popular interpreter of the Roumanian folk song and
perceived later a professor at the Bucharest Conservatory. He considered to be one of the founders of opera in Romania. He committed suicide in 1939: C.Buescu: ‘’Georghe
