Her real name was Emma Schubotz; at the age of five she came to Berlin and studied singing in Wroclaw under Frau Seidelmann. In 1878 she made her debut at the Municipal Theatre of Dortmund in the title role of Flotow’s ‘’Martha’’. Then she married to bass Caspar Baumann and retired from the stage. In 1882 she appeared again on the stage of the Municipal Theatre of Dortmund. In 1883 she made guest appearance at the Berlin Kroll Opera. In 1884 she was engaged by the Opera House of Leipzig (beginning role: Donna Elvira in ‘’Don Giovanni’’), and remained up to the end of her career in 1902 a member of this theatre. In Leipzig she appeared with great success. Here she also sang in 1888 in the premiere of Weber’s opera ‘’Die drei Pintos’’ in the revised version by Gustav Mahler. In 1888 she performed in the premiere of ‘’Auf hohen Befehl’’ of Carl Reineckes. She appeared as a guest at the Berlin Court Opera (also in 1890 and 1897), at the Court Opera of Dresden (regularly till 1901) and at the Court theatre of Weimar. Probably she made her last appearance in 1903 at Leipzig singing in Rossini’s ‘’Barbiere di Siviglia’’. She also was a respected concert singer. In 1907 she received a teaching assignment from the Leipzig Conservatoire; later she was appointed the honorary member of the Leipzig Opera. In 1899 she made only three records for Berliner.
