Fany Toresella (Fanny Torresella) (Soprano) (Tiflis, Georgia 1856 - Rome, Italy 1914)



She was the daughter of the Italian choir conductor Antonio Torresella. She studied singing under her father and already in 1870 appeared at the opera house of Trieste as Fenena in Verdi’s ‘’Nabucco’’. More than 20 years she appeared in Italian province, Russia and South America. She also guested in Austria, Spain, Egypt and Portugal and gave a guest performance in London. She created in 1896 at the Teatro de la Opera of Buenos Aires the role of Musetta in the première there of Puccini’s ‘’La Bohème’’. In 1884 she appeared at La Scala as Marguerite de Valois in ‘’Les Huguenots’’ of  Meyerbeer. In 1894 and 1904 she guested again at La Scala, in 1887 she sang at the Teatro San Carlo of Naples in 1889, 1897 and 1900 in Buenos Aires; also in Spain. On 17. 1. 1901 she sang at the Teatro Regio of Turin in Mascagni’s opera ‘’Le Maschere’’. In 1904 she appeared there as Gilda in ‘’Rigoletto’’ opposite Titta Ruffo. She gave only till 1909 occasional guest performances and concerts in Italy and South America. Last she lived in Rome
