Her real name was Maria Elisabetta Alasia. She began
her education in 1897 at the Liceo Musicale in Turin and afterwards was a
pupil of Annetta Casaloni and L. Perigozzo. She made her debut in 1901 at the Teatro Regio in Torino as Signora Dufresne in R. Leoncavallo's ''Zaza''. In 1907 she appeared at the Teatro Comunale in Bologna in the Italian première of P. Tchaikovsky's opera
''Iolanta''. At the Teatro Verdi in Padova she sang in the premiere of the opera
