Kurt Frederich (Tenor) (Karlsruhe, Germany 29. 5. 1884 - Germany, after 1954)




He received his education in Berlin and made his debut in 1902 at the Deutschen Theater in Prague as Alessandro Stradella in ‘’Alessandro Stradella’’ of  Flotow. He remained there till 1904 and then appeared at the Hoftheater in Wiesbaden, where he sang till 1912. In the 1911-1913 seasons he was a member of the Kurfürsten-Oper in Berlin. On 23. 12. 1911 here he sang the part of Gennaro in the premiere of the opera ‘’I Gioielli della Madonna’’ of E. Wolf-Ferrari. Since 1916 he taught singing in Berlin Conservatory. He made successful guest appearances in Dresden, Kassel, Gotha, Cologne, Leipzig and Strasbourg. His repertoire included Lyonel in ‘’Martha’’, George Brown in ‘’La Dame blanche’’ of L. Boieldieu, Wilhelm Meister in ‘’Mignon’’ of A. Thomas, Alfredo in ‘’La Traviata’’, Lorenzo in ‘’Fra Diavolo’’ of Auber, Turiddu in ‘’Cavalleria Rusticana’’, Manrico in ‘’Il Trovatore’’ and Lohengrin. His brother was the theatrical manager and author Fritz Friedmann-Frederich (1884-1934).
