The
real name of this totally forgotten tenor is Lev Gips and he was born to a
jewish family. He studied singing in Odessa, later perfected his vocal
technique in Italy. Then appeared with great success in Kiev, Irkutsk
(1906-1907), Kharkov (1907), Madrid, Italy (1910) and USA (1919). In the
1921-1926 seasons he was a soloist of the Belgrade Opera. Among his best roles
were Radames in ''Aida'' and Eleasar in ''La Juive''.
