Antonio Aramburo (Tenor) (Erla, Zaragoza 1840 – Montevideo 1912)

He studied in Madrid with Antonio Cordero and made his debut in 1871 at the Teatro Carcano in Milan in ‘’Saffo’’. The next year Aramburo was in Venice, where at the Teatro Comploy he performed as Pollione in ‘’Norma’’. Guest appearances followed in Dublin (1873), Buenos Aires (1874), Moscow (1875), Paris (1876), Seville (1879), Havana (1881), Berlin (1882), Santiago (1883), Warsaw (1887) and Odessa (1892). In 1879 Aramburo first appeared in New York at the Academy of Music in "Rigoletto," "Lucia di Lammermoor," and "Il Trovatore." The tenor then left the U.S. in a rage after receiving poor reviews in the New York "Herald," and went off to fulfill a contract at La Scala. Aramburo considered himself one of the six leading tenors of Europe. After his retirement he lived in Montevideo where he and made Aramburo Cylinders.
