Marcel Vercammen (Tenor) (Merksem, Antwerp 20 July 1910 - ? 2 February 2000)

He studied singing at the conservatoire of Antwerp under Mina Bolotine and then with Clemens Glettenberg in Cologne. Later he was a pupil of the famous heroic tenor Max Lorenz. First he appeared as a concert singer. In 1940 he made his debut at the Opera House of Antwerp and till 1971 remained a member. He made guest appearances in Paris (Grand Opéra, 1956, as Tannhäuser), Marseille and Strasbourg, Cologne and at the National Theater in Mannheim. Since 1960 he was often to be heard as a guest at the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels. Since 1958 he worked as a pedagogue at the conservatoire of Antwerp. His repertoire included Pollione in V. Bellini’s ‘’Norma’’, Manrico in ‘’Il Trovatore’’, Tannhäuser, Siegmund in "Walküre", Siegfried in Nibelungenring, Parsifal, José in ‘’Carmen’’, Samson in ‘’Samson et Dalila’’ by C. Saint-Saëns and Dimitri in ‘’Boris Godunov’’ of M. Mussorgsky.
