Alice Esty (Soprano) (Lowell, Massachusetts 1864 - Farnham, Surrey 1935)

Nothing is know about her early career in America. By the 1890s  she came to England and was engaged by different opera societies as the first soprano. Already in 1895 she became a member of the Moody-Manners Opera Company. In 1897 she appeared with Carl Rosa Opera Company. As a member of this societies she took part in their tours and sang also at the London Covent Garden. In 1897 she took over in the English première of G. Puccini’s ‘’La Bohème’’ in Manchester ( as Mimi). Her stage repertoire included Juliette in ‘’Roméo et Juliette’’, Marguerite in ‘’Faust’’, Micaela in ‘’Carmen’’, Leonora in ‘’Trovatore’’, Elisabeth in ‘’Tannhäuser’’, Elsa in ‘’Lohengrin’’ and Eva in ‘’Meistersingern’’. She attained a big popularity in England.  Especially she often appeared at the London Coliseum Theatre. After her retirement she remained in England and taught singing in Farnham (Surrey).
