Elise von Catopol (Soprano) (? 1887 - Berlin 1941)

She descended from Roumanian family and her real name was Elisa Catapolu. She received her education in Milan and Paris as well as at the conservatoire of Vienna. In 1906 she made her debut in Vienna as a concert singer. She began her stage career in the 1907-1908 season at the Theater in Troppau (Opava) and then sang in the 1908-1911 seasons at the Deutschen Theater in Prague. From 1911 to 1914 she appeared at the Hofoper in Dresden, in the 1914-1919 seasons at the Opernhaus in Wroclaw, where she appeared among other things on 10. 3. 1917 in the premiere of the opera ‘’Eros und Psyche’’ by Polish composer Lubomir Rózycki. In Wroclaw she also married to lyrical tenor Hans Batteux (1885-1961). Since then she also appeared under the name Elise von Catopol-Batteux. After the First World War both artists were engaged by the Staatsoper  in Berlin. Here she sang in the 1919-1925 seasons, then she appeared some years as as a concert soloist and in the 1929-1931 as well as from 1933-1940 seasons performed at the Deutschen Opernhaus in Berlin. Her repertoire included Musetta in ‘’La Bohème’’, Violettas in ‘’Traviata’’, Marguerite de Valois in ‘’Huguenots’’, Santuzza in ‘’Cavalleria Rusticana’’ and Cio-Cio-San in ‘’Madama Butterfly’’.
