GIUSEPPE QUINZI-TAPERGI (ROME, 1881 – MILAN, 1931)

Early in his career, he sang at notable venues, including the Teatro Massimo in Palermo (1908) and the Teatro Dal Verme in Milan (1909), where he appeared in Verdi’s Aida.

In 1911, he achieved significant success at the Teatro Regio in Parma, singing Pimen in the premiere of Boris Godunov, with Eugenio Giraldoni in the title role. That same year, he performed as Mefistofele in Boito’s opera and Sparafucile in Rigoletto, with Amelita Galli-Curci as Gilda. Also in 1911, he debuted at La Scala, where he sang Geronimo in Cimarosa’s Il Matrimonio Segreto and participated in the premiere of Filiasi’s Fior di Neve. He later contributed to La Scala’s 1923 season in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi.

Internationally, he performed at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires in 1911, where he reprised his role as Geronimo and participated in the premiere of Puccini’s La Fanciulla del West. Returning to the Colón in 1914, his roles included Leporello in Don Giovanni, appearances in Don Pasquale alongside Lucrezia Bori, Alessandro Bonci, and Giuseppe De Luca, Sparafucile in Rigoletto, Colline in La Bohème, Grieux in Massenet’s Manon, and Brander in Berlioz’s La Damnation de Faust.

In 1921, he performed at the Teatro Regio in Turin for the premiere of Cantù’s Ettore Ferramosca. The following year, in 1922, he sang at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris under the baton of Tullio Serafin. His final stage appearances were likely around 1930.
