He was born into the Jewish family. His real name was Henry Arensen. At the beginning he worked as tailor in New York. He was found by a musical amateur singing at a Yiddish wedding. He started his career as a concert singer. In 1910 he made his debut at the Boston Opera as Manrico in ''Il Trovatore'' of Verdi. During his career he sang in opera houses of Canada, Italy and Germany. In 1922 as Enrico Arenson together with O. K. Nazarova, O. V. Pototskaya and M. A. Tamarina he performed in concert at the Russian Grammar School in Zelenogorsk (Russia). He sang on stage under the names Andrea Arensen, Enrico Arenson and Andre Arensen. Probably in Italy he met Nadine Legat, a fine singer who become his wife.
