Francesco Federici (Baritone) (Ferrara 1873 - Den Haag 1934)




He is descended from an aristocratic family in Ferrara. Debuted in 1894 in Montepulciano (Teatro Poliziano) and sang in Italian provincial theatres. In 1903 he guested in Bari appearing as Schaunard in ‘’Boheme’’. In 1905 he performed at the Teatro Massimo, Palermo in ‘’Dinorah’’ and ‘’Iris’’; in 1906 he sang in Bergamo, Teatro Donizetti as Belcore in ‘’L’elisir d’amore’’. In 1905 he appeared at the Teatro Comunale, Bologna in the premiere of the opera ‘’Cassandra’’ of Vittorio Gnecchi. In 1909 he guested at the Teatro Liceo, Barcelona. From 1913 to 1916 he sang at the Chicago Opera. Here he appeared 1913 in the American première of Leoncavallo’s ‘’I Zingari’’ as Tamir (in presence of the composer). In 1916 he was staying at the opera house of Sao Paulo. In 1934 he was engaged by the Italian opera in Holland, where he broke down during of performance in Amsterdam. He died few days later and found his last place of rest in Hague.
