Gino Del Signore (Tenor) (Rome, Italy April 30, 1906 - Rome, Italy December 30, 1978)

First he studied piano and composition in Rome, then singing at the Conservatoire in Milano. In 1933 he appeared for the first time at La Scala, where he was to be heard during the following twenty years. He made successful guest appearances among other things at the opera houses of Roma, Venezia, Trieste, and Florence. In the 1938-1939 season he took over at the Salzburg festival the parts of Basilio in ‘’Figaros Hochzeit’’ and the Fenton in ‘’Falstaff’’. He appeared also at the festival in Glyndebourne as Ferrando in ‘’Così fan tutte’’ (1939). His repertoire included also Alfredo in ‘’La Traviata’’and Cassio in G. Verdi’s ‘’Otello’’. He belonged to the ensemble which brought at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice the premiere of S. Prokofiev’s opera ‘’L'Ange de feu’’ (29. 9. 1955). Still in 1956 he guested in Holland as Dr. Cajus in ‘’Falstaff’’. Later he taught singing in Roma.
