Paul Guillamat (Baritone) (Carbonne bei Toulouse 1. 7. 1877 - Paris 18. 12. 1957)




He received his education at the Conservatoire National de Paris. In 1903 he was engaged by the Paris Opéra-Comique, where he made his debut as Lothario in ‘’Mignon’’ of A. Thomas and  (possibly) remained up to the First World War. During this time he appeared there in a number of opera premieres: ‘’Aphrodite’’ of Camille Erlanger (1906), ‘’Fortunio’’ of A. Messager (as de Verbois, 1907), ‘’La Jota’’ of Raoul Laparra (1911), ‘’Macbeth’’ of Ernest Bloch ( 1910) and ‘’On ne badine pas avec l'amour’’ of Gabriel Pierné (1910). At the Opéra-Comique his repertoire included also the minister in ‘’Fidelio’’, Sulpice in ’’La Fille du régiment’’ of Donizetti, Ramon in ‘’Mireille’’ of Gounod, Jupiter in ‘’Philémon et Baucis’’ of the same composer, Bellamy in ‘’Les Dragons de Villars’’ of Maillart, Nilakantha in ‘’Lakmé’’ of Delibes, Remiggio in ‘’La Navarraise’’ of Massenet, Jahel in ‘’Le Roi d'Ys’’ of Lalo, der Bailli in ‘’Werther’’ of Massenet and the doctor in ‘’Pelléas et Mélisande’’. At the Grand Opéra in Paris he appeared only once, as Zuniga in ‘’Carmen’’ (1907). He was to be heard at the famous French provincial theaters several times as a guest. Later he worked for about thirty years as pedagogue at the Paris Conservatoire.
