Stella Power (Soprano) (1896, 27/6, Richmond, Melbourne – 1977, 16/1, Cheltenham, Melbourne)

First she received vocal lessons by Elsa Wiedermann, the former teacher of Nellie Melba, then continued her education at the Albert Street Conservatory in Melbourne with Mary Campbell. She officially became Nellie Melba’s protégée and was called "the little Melba". She stayed six months with the famous singer in the USA, then came back to Australia and later traveled again with Nellie Melba to London (1918). During her trip she appeared with great success in the USA and also made some records for Edison. On November, 1919 she made her debut at the Royal Albert Hall in London as concert singer. During several years she travelled around England and Australia and from 1924-1934 sang in North America. Here she appeared primarily in Film Theatres and Music Halls. She also appeared in the opening of New York Capitol theater. Later she came back again to Australia where she still appeared at the Australian broadcasting company ABC. In 1940 she picked up her career finally and worked in Melbourne as vocal pedagogue.
