Arcangelo Rossi (Bass) (Ferentino, Italia 1869 - Milano, Italia 1907 )



After his education at the conservatoire of Naples he made his debut in 1887 at the Teatro Nuovo in Naples as Masetto in ‘’Don Giovanni’’. In 1897 he appeared at La Scala in the premiere of the opera ‘’Il Signore di Pourceaugnac’’ of Alberto Franchetti. In New York he soon became known as an excellent Bass-Buffo. In 1907 he sang at the Metropolitan Opera in the premières of G. Puccinis operas ‘’Manon Lescaut’’ and ‘’Madama Butterfly’’. In June of 1907 he committed suicide in a moment of desperation.
