The first singing lessons he received by the pedagogues G. Paulet and Mme. Fourestier and from 1924 to 1928 studied at Conservatoire de Paris, where in 1928 he won several prices. He began a career as a concert singer. In 1929 he made his debut at the Opéra-Comique in Paris as Noctambule in ‘’Louise’’ of G. Charpentier and appeared here till 1956. In the 1934-1954 seasons he also appeared at the Paris Grand Opéra, among other things as Tamino in ‘’The Magic Flute’’, Dimitri in ‘’Boris Godunov’’, Nicias in ‘’Thaïs’’ and as Orpheus in ‘’Orfeo ed Euridice’’. He made guest appearances at the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels (1935), at the Teatro Liceo in Barcelona (among other things as Faust with Victoria de los Angeles) and at the famous operatic stages of the French province. In 1933 he created for Holland the part of Gonzalve in the première of M. Ravel’s ‘’L'Heure espagnole’’ (under Pierre Monteux). At the Opéra-Comique he sang in the premieres of E. Bondeville’s ‘’L'École des Maris’’ (1935) and ‘’Esther de Carpentras’’ of D. Milhaud (1938). His repertoire included the Belmonte in ‘’Entführung aus dem Serail’’, Wilhelm Meister in ‘’Mignon’’, Nadir in ‘’Pêcheurs de perles’’, Werther, Grieux in ‘’Manon’’, Mylio in ‘’Le Roi d'Ys’’, Gérald in ‘’Lakmé’’, Alfredo in ‘’La Traviata’’, Rodolfo in ‘’La Bohème’’ and Jean in ‘’Sapho’’, in addition numerous operetta roles. After his retirement, he worked as pedagogue at the Conservatoire International de Musique in Paris.
