Vladimir Dubrovsky

He was born to a Jewish family and his real name was Nokhim Frumson. He studied singing at the College of Music in Rostov under the famous tenor Eugene Ryadnov (1853-1925) and made his debut in 1902 as Eleazar in ‘’La Juive’’ at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg. Then he perfected his vocal technique in Paris with Paul Lhérie and Giovanni Sbriglia. From 1902 to 1904 and from 1911 to 1920 he was a soloist of the Mariinsky Theatre. In the 1904-1905 season he appeared at the Opera in Kiev, from 1907 to 1908 at the National House in St. Petersburg, in the 1907-1909 seasons at the Kazan Opera. He made guest appearances in Lisbon (Teatro San Carlo 1909) and London (Covent Garden 1910?). His repertoire included Hermann in ‘’The Queen of Spades’’, Almavivia in ‘’Il Barbiere di Siviglia’’, Raoul in ‘’Gli Ugonotti’’, Eleazar in ‘’La Juive’’, Enzo in ‘’La Gioconda’’, Duca in ‘’Rigoletto’’, Don Jose in ‘’Carmen’’.
