Alice Raveau (Contralto) (Paris, France 1884 - Paris, France 1945/1951)

She studied singing at the Conservatoire in Paris under Dubulle and made her debut in 1908 at the Opéra-Comique in Paris in Gluck’s ‘’Orphée’’. This part remained her real star role. In 1911 she appeared as Orpheus at the Arena d’Orange. In 1910 she sang at the Opéra-Comique  in the premieres of the operas ‘’Léone’’ of Samuel-Rousseau and Ernest Bloch’s ‘’Macbeth’’. In 1920 she appeared in the premiere of ‘’Le Sauteriot’’ of  Sylvio Lazzari. On 4. 3. 1913 she performed at the Opéra de Monte-Carlo in the premiere of the opera ‘’Pénélope’’ of Gabriel Fauré. Beside Orpheus, the part of Charlotte in Massenet’s ‘’Werther’’, was also counted her star role. At the Opéra-Comique she was known as successor of Marie Delna. In 1929 she had one of her biggest successes at the Grand Opéra in the part of Dalila in ‘’Samson et Dalila’’ by Saint-Saëns. After successful guest performances at the Grand Opéra in Paris, Marseille, Toulouse and Bordeaux, she devoted herself more and more to the concert appearances. She counted as one of the most significant French song interpreters of her time. In 1934 she gave a recitals in Scandinavia, Belgium and Holland.
