Charles Fronval (Tenor) (La Rochelle 1903 - ? 1982)

First he was active as a carpenter. He studied singing in Toulouse and made his debut in 1935 at the Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse and remained active in this house till 1938. Then he appeared successfully in several French provincial operatic stages. In 1940 he was engaged by the Grand Opéra in Paris and made his debut as Samson in ‘’Samson et Dalila’’ by C. Saint-Saëns and appeared till 1953 in this opera house. He returned in the 1956-1957 season again to the Grand Opéra and retired from the stage in 1958. In 1940 he was to be heard at the Paris Opéra-Comique as Julien in ‘’Louise’’ by G. Charpentier. Between 1947 and 1951 he guested regularly at the Opéra de Monte-Carlo, among other things as Parsifal and Tristan. He also appeared in Belgian opera houses, for example in 1954 at the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels. His repertoire included Florestan in ‘’Fidelio’’, Lohengrin, Siméon in ‘’Joseph’’, Faust in ‘’La Damnation de Faust’’, Mylio in ‘’Le Roi d'Ys’’, Jean in ‘’Hérodiade’’, Ulysses in ‘’Pénélope’’, Turiddu in ‘’Cavalleria Rusticana’’.
