He began his musical education in his native
country, then went to Vienna and finally studied
at the Royal Academy of Music in London
under Battison Haynes. In Vienna
he studied among other things under Guido Adler. He made his debut in concert
at Lviv. He made his operatic debut in 1903 at the Opera House of Warsaw as Wotan in ‘’Die
Walkure’’. In the 1903-04 season he was
a member of the Opera House of Lviv. From 1904 to 1907 he was engaged as the
first baritone by the Vienna Court Opera, In the 1907-1908 season he appeared
again at the Opera House of Warsaw. He guested in Paris
and Milan and
was engaged in the 1911-1913 by the Berlin Kurfürstenoper. Here he performed on 23. 12. 1911 in the
premiere of the opera ‘’I gioielli della Madonna’’ of Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari in
the part of the Raffaele. He guested in the 1909-1911 season at the Opera House
of Dusseldorf, in 1910 at the Berlin Court Opera, in 1911 at the Royal Opera of
Copenhagen, in 1912 at the Municipal Theatre of Bremen. At the same time he was
a highly respected concert singer. Already during his work in Berlin he was known as a pedagogue. After
the First World War he moved his activity to England . He appeared there still as
a concert singer, became internationally famous, however, above all as a
singing teacher. He developed a special educational teaching system in London . Then he went as a
pedagogue to North America , where he trained
again numerous singers. In 1918 he published a textbook ‘’The Practical
Psychology of Voice and Life’’. As a composer he published vocal works and
orchestra works, several song cycles and single songs.
