Antonio Salvarezza (Tenor) Alessandria 1902 - Levata, Bosco Marengo 1985)

He spent his youth in South America and worked at first in Buenos Aires in a business occupation. Then he studied there under the pedagogue Filippo Florio and made his debut in 1937 at the Teatro Municipale of Rio de Janeiro as Duke in ‘’Rigoletto’’, where in the 938-39 season sang in ‘’Lucia di Lammermoor’’, ‘’Bohème’’, ‘’Madame Butterfly’’, then he was to be heard as a guest at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires. In general he  became famous when he sang in 1939 at La Scala in Milan the role of Arturo in ‘’Puritani’’of Bellini. At La Scala he appeared till 1946. During the Second World War he appeared at the famous Italian opera houses, also at the Opera House of Rome (1938-50). In 1943 he made guest appearance at the Vienna State Opera. In 1946 he sang in Chicago and Philadelphia. In the 1946-48 seasons he guested at Cambridge Theatre in London appearing among other things as Cavaradossi in ‘’Tosca’’, Duke in ‘’Rigoletto’’ and Rodolfo in ‘’Bohème’’. Guest performances and concert tours led him to France, Holland, Belgium and Austria. In 1952 he appeared at the Maggio musicale in Florence. He performed also at the Teatro Liceo in Barcelona, at the Opera Houses of Geneva, Monte Carlo, Cairo and Madrid. In 1939 he sang at the Opera House of Rome in the premiere of the opera ‘’La Zolfara’’ of Giuseppe Mulè. In 1959 he appeared at the Opera House of Rome the role of Cavaradossi in ‘’Tosca’’.
