Arthur Lheureux (Tenor) (Frameries 1882 - Bonsecours 1950)



First he studied singing at the conservatoire of Mons and then in Brussels under Désiré Demest. In 1909 he began his stage career at the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels, where he appeared as comprimario. In 1912 he appeared at the opera house of Nancy in the premiere of the opera ‘Le Pays’’ of  Guy Ropartz. In 1916 he was engaged by the Opéra-Comique in Paris. In this opera house he sng till 1925. Here he appeared among other things as Julien in ‘’Louise’’ of Charpentier, De Grieux in ‘’Manon’’ of Massenet, José in ‘’Carmen’’, Turiddu in ‘’Cavalleria Rusticana’’ and Canio in ‘’Pagliacci’’. He was also known by his appearance as a soloist in numerous concerts in France like in his native Belgian country. From 1926 to 1948 he was occupied as a professor and singing teacher at the conservatoire of Mons. His a few records, which made for Parlophon, are extremely rare.
