Alexander Matveev (Tenor) (Moscow 1876 – Moscow 1961)

He studied singing under F. Andrievsky in Moscow and under S. Gabel in St. Petersburg. He made his debut in 1895 at the Panaevsky Theatre of St. Petersburg in N. Rimsky-Korsakov’s  opera ‘’The Maid of Pskov’’. In 1902 he sang in Tbilisi, then in Kharkov and Moscow and St. Petersburg. From 1906 to 1908 and from 1910 to 1917 he was a member of the Mariinsky Theatre of St. Petersburg, where he made his debut as Radames in ‘’Aida’’. From 1908 to 1910 and from 1920 to 1922 Matveev appeared at the Moscow Bolshoi Theatre. He was also a soloist of the Ekaterinburg Opera House. From 1917 to 1921 he made guest appearances at the Grand Opera in Paris. Guest appearances followed in Saratov, Tbilisi, in the cities of Soviet Union (1921-1932).
