Louis Bauer (Bass) (Sägeberg, Holstein 1875 † ? 1909)




When he was nine years old, his family emigrated to the USA. In 1894 he came back to Europe and finished there his education in Vienna. In 1896 he made his debut at the Hoftheater in Weimar. In 1898 he appeared at the Stadttheater in Zurich as king Heinrich in ‘’Lohengrin’’ and sang at this opera house till 1902. In 1902 he was engaged by the Opernhaus in Cologne and remained a member of this theater till 1909. His repertoire included Daland in ‘’Fliegenden Holländer’’, Landgraf in ‘’Tannhäuser’’, Pogner in ‘’Meistersingern’’, Marke in ‘’Tristan und Isolde’’, Fafner, Hunding and Hagen in Nibelungenring, Sarastro in ‘’Zauberflöte’’, Commendatore in ‘’Don Giovanni’’, Rocco in ‘’Fidelio’’, Kaspar in ‘’Freischütz’’, Cardinal in ‘’La Juive’’, Marcel in ‘’Huguenots’’, Raimondo in ’’Lucia di Lammermoor’’ and Jagu in ‘’Manru’’ of Paderewski. In the first decade of 20th century he had a huge success at the leading opera houses of Germany. He made guest appearances in Frankfurt am Main (Opernhaus 1901, 1906), Wien (Hofoper 1904), Dusseldorf (Opernhaus 1907), Berlin (Hofopern 1909) and Dresden (1909 Hofopern).
