Niels Juel Simonsen (Baritone) (Copenhagen, Denmark May 16, 1846 - Copenhagen, Denmark May 25, 1906)

His mother Catharina Simonsen (1816-1849) was a known singer, his father Hans Simonsen (1810-1857) was the first Violinist of the Royal Opera in Copenhagen. He made his debut in 1868 at the Royal Opera in Copenhagen  in ‘’Hans Heiling’’ of H. Marschner and remained a member of this opera house during his long career. On 28. 11. 1902 here he appeared in the part of Saul in the premiere of the opera "Saul og David" by Carl August Nielsen. His repertoire included Fliegende Holländer, Hans Sachs in "Meistersingern", Figaro in "Figaros Hochzeit" and Stig in "Drot og marsk"of Peter Heise. He was active in Copenhagen also as vocal pedagogue.
