Maikki Pakarinen-Järnefelt (Soprano) (os. Pakarinen, 26. elokuuta 1871 Joensuu − 4. heinäkuuta 1929)




Her real name was Maikka Pikkarinen under which she has also appeared at the beginning of her career. She studied singing under Mathilde Marchesi de Castrone in Paris and with Julius Hey in Berlin. In 1893 she married the significant Finnish composer and conductor Armas Järnefelt (1869-1958). When her husband worked at the Opera House of Wroclaw, she made her debut there (1895). Till 1899 she remained in Wroclaw and sang later at the Königlichen Opernhaus in Berlin. She made guest appearances also at the Stadttheater in Magdeburg and at the Opernhaus in Dusseldorf. In 1899 she made her debut at the Bayreuth festival, then sang in Bremen (Stadttheater), Wiener (Hofoper, 1906), Copenhagen and Stockholm (Royal Opera). She also took part in opera performances organized by Armas Järnefelt in Helsinki. In 1906 she made guest appearances at the Teatro Regio in Turin and later also performed at the Opera House in Rimini. In 1908 she separated from Armas Järnefelt and married in 1910 the Finnish composer Selim Palmgren (1878-1951). In 1915 she appeared at the Copenhagen Royal  Opera as Senta in "Fliegenden Holländer" and as Elsa in ‘’Lohengrin’’. When Selim Palmgren was appointed in 1923 as a professor of the Eastman conservatoire in Rochester (New York), she followed him to North America; she was active there in the education area till 1930. later she lived in her Finnish native country.
