Gunnar Grip (Baritone) (Norrtälje 29/6, 1887 - Stockholm 26/3, 1965)

From 1919 to 1921 he studied singing under Mattia Battistini in Rome, Vittorio Vanzo in Milan and W. Beck in Paris. In 1921 he made his debut at the Köiglichen Oper in Stockholm as Figaro G. Rossini's ''Il Barbiere di Siviglia''. The next 20 years he had a significant success in this famous Swedish opera house like at guest performances in the northern and the Baltic states. As a concert singer he gave a successful recitals in Berlin, Dresden, Rome, Paris, Brussels and London. In 1925, during the first Swedish broadcasting performance, he sang the title role in P. Tchaikovsky’s ‘’Eugene Onegin’’ under the direction of Nils Grevillius. His famous parts included Count di Luna in ‘’Il Trovatore’’, Tonio and Silvio in ‘’Pagliacci’’ and Scarpia in ‘’Tosca’’. Later he also became known as the publisher of music-critical magazines (''Scenen'', 1934; ''Jorden Runt'', 1933-60).
