Lucy Weidt (Soprano) Opava, Czech Republic 1876 - Vienna, Austria 1940)





Her full name was Marie Louise Charlotta (Lucie, Lucy) Weidt. Her father was the conductor and composer Heinrich Weidt (1828-1901). She studied singing under Rose Papier-Paumgartner in Vienna and made her debut in 1900 at the Oper in Leipzig, where she appeared till 1903 and sang in 1902 in the premiere of Felix Weimgartner’s ‘’Orestes'’’. In 1903 she was engaged by the Hofoper in Vienna (since 1918 the Staatsoper). In Vienna as a beginning role she sang the part of Elisabeth in ‘’Tannhäuser’’. In 1907 she created for Vienna the part of Lisa in ‘’The Queen of Spades’’ by P. Tschaikovsky. She appeared also in the premieres of the operas "Rosenkavalier" (1911) and ‘’Parsifal’’ (1914). The same year the part of Kundry she sang also in the première of the ‘’Parsifal’’ at La Scala in Milan. On 10. 10. 1919 at the Vienna Hofoper she performed in the premiere of Richard Strauss’s opera "Die Frau ohne Schatten". She made guest appearances in London (Covent Garden), Paris (Grand Opéra), Buenos Aires (Teatro Colón), Amsterdam and Brussels. In 1927 she retired from the stage and worked as a pedagogue in Vienna. She married to Austrian diplomat Johann Andreas Freiherrn von Eichhoff.
