Giuseppe Reschiglian (Tenor) (Padova 1875 - Amsterdam 1949)

He began his career as an oratorios and churches singer. He made his debut in 1895 at Sociale of Pordenone in ‘’Ruy Blas’’. He appeared as a lyric tenor in the leading Italian theaters and sang parts like the Nemorino in ‘’Elisir d'amore’’, Alfredo in ‘’ Traviata’’, Ernesto in ‘’ Don Pasquale’’ and Elvino in Bellini’s ‘’Sonnambula’’. In 1915 he was engaged by the Italian opera company to appear in Holland. Together with the soprano Margherita Bevignani and the baritone Luigi Mazzoleni he decided to remain there, because of the insecurity of the war relations. Three artists put together an opera troupe with which they organized opera performances in 1918 at the the Theatre Carré,Amsterdam. Famous conductor Willem Mengelberg allowed  him to sing the part  of tenor-solo in Verdi's Requiem. After the First World War he continued his career in Italy. By the invitation of his brother Vincenzo Reschiglian (1874-1955), who was engaged for decades as a Comprimario at the Metropolitan Opera, New York, he came to USA and sang there first as a mamber of the San Carlo Opera Company, then at the opera house of Philadelphia (1925-29). In 1938 he moved his activity again to Holland and now worked as a pedagogue in Amsterdam. Still in 1941 he gave in the Dutch broadcasting company a concert with modern Italian songs.
