Leo Piccioli (Baritone) (Firenze 1899 - Milano 1962)



He was a pupil of Eugenio Giachetti in Florence. He made his debut at the Teatro Alfieri of Florence as Figaro in Rossini’s ‘’Barbierei di Siviglia’’ (1922). In 1925 he made guest appearance at Manhattan Opera House of New York. The next year he appeared in Holland (Amsterdam, Hague). Here he sang with great success and performed in Holland till 1938. His famous roles were Zurga in ‘’Pêcheurs de perles’’ of Bizet with the tenor Luigi Fort as a partner, Figaro in ‘’Barbiere di Siviglia’’, Amonasro in ‘’Aida’’, Marcello in ‘’La Bohème’’, Ford in ‘’Falstaff’’ of Verdi and in many other Italian and French roles. In Italy he appeared basically in provincial theaters, however, sang in 1938 at La Scala of Milan in ‘’Le nozze di Figaro’’ of Mozart. In 1953 he sang in Nice and again in Holland. After his retirement he worked some years as a vocal pedagogue in Milan.
